Grindamyndin is part of the project called “Faroe Islands and its people”. It is part of a photography series where we illustrate the culture of the Faroe Islands and capture the lifestyle of the faroese people.

The tradition of killing whales is an ancient one on the Faroe Islands. It has many times saved the native people from starvation.

For this illustration of a whaler we used Levi, a farmer and a native Faroese man, who is a perfect example of a person living the traditional faroese lifestyle and no stranger to whaling.

The image had been in our minds for a long time and we knew exactly how the end result should be. After planning and organizing we finally went out and did the shoot.

The final result is this raw and authentic depiction of the faroese culture.
